Promptchan AI Review: an image and video studio that also flirts back

How the studio works

Promptchan began as an image generator and the Create page is still its heart. You describe a subject, a place and a mood, pick a style anywhere from photoreal to anime, set the pose and framing, then generate. A negative prompt of up to 250 characters keeps unwanted details out, and a creativity slider decides how loosely the model reads your words.

Two tools cut down on retyping. Tweak edits a finished picture from a short instruction, like a new outfit, background or light. Clone pulls the full prompt and settings of any public creation into your workspace so you can remix it, and the Explore page talks of millions of community images and videos to borrow from.

One detail we like: according to the chat guide, a character's face comes from a written description or from an image already generated on Promptchan. The guides we read never mention starting from a photo you upload, and the terms forbid depicting real people who have not agreed to it.

How far it goes (NSFW rules)

A long way. The beginner guide calls Promptchan an uncensored, no-filter studio, every plan includes uncensored generation from a text prompt, and the chat page promises characters who stay in role wherever you steer them. For explicit images of fictional adults, it sits at the permissive end of this market.

The written limits are tighter than at many rivals. The terms rule out anything that looks under 18, sexual family roleplay even as fiction, lookalikes of real people or celebrities, animals, gore and a couple of extreme fetishes. Automated scans check prompts, outputs and uploads, every public post has a report button, and a human team reviews flags. Risky requests can be blocked before delivery, so expect the occasional refusal.

Chat, voice and video

Chat runs on a Discover feed of companions built by Promptchan and its users, male and female, realistic and anime. Chat mode feels like texting, while Story mode lets you direct a scene chapter by chapter, but switching between the two wipes the history. Two chat models are on offer, the richer v2.5 Pro and the quicker v2.5 Fast, along with more than 50 ready-made scenarios to drop a character into.

Inside a chat, Create image from scene turns the current moment into a picture. Voice is billed per use: the pricing FAQ charges 1 Gem for a voice message and 2 for a call. Read the small print, though. The pricing table lists voice calls and custom characters as Pro perks, while the chat tutorial claims voice is open to anyone holding Gems, so check before you subscribe.

Video is the showpiece and the priciest part. You can type a text-to-video prompt or animate a still, leave the motion on Auto or describe it, switch on generated audio, and stretch a clip you like with Extend. All of it needs Pro, each clip spends extra Gems, and the cost is shown before you confirm. One trap: clips you do not publish are kept for 24 hours only, so download the keepers.

What it costs

The pricing page shows four tiers. Free hands out Gems every day to spend on pictures and messages, and opens the community gallery. Plus is $14.99 a month with 100 Gems, double chat usage, HD images and basic poses and styles. Premium costs $23.99 for 400 Gems and five times the chat. Pro, at $33.99, adds 800 Gems, unlimited chat and casual generations, video with Extend, voice calls, custom characters, 4K output and every style and pose.

Gems are the real meter. The tutorial puts an image at roughly one Gem, higher quality tiers cost more, and a video clip adds Gems for sound or a character in the shot. Paying members get half off extra Gem packs. What we could not find: a full Gem price list, the price of those packs, or rates for the annual plans that the refund policy mentions. Promotional prices show up only at checkout.

Next to chat-first brands this is not cheap, since the tier that unlocks everything costs more than twice the Plus entry fee. If you only want pictures, Plus or Premium covers the basics. If you came for video, budget for Pro from day one.

Privacy, billing and refunds

Subscriptions paid with a recurring method renew on their own, and checkout labels which methods those are, while crypto and G2A payments buy a set stretch of time with no renewal. Cancelling happens in your settings, and paid features stay on until the period you paid for runs out. The terms let Promptchan change fees with reasonable notice, but never in the middle of a billing cycle.

The refund policy is generous on timing and vague on conditions. You get 30 days from the purchase date, and annual plans get the same window after every charge, renewals included, but only if you have not made significant use of the AI in that time, and every claim is reviewed case by case within about seven business days. You must cancel first, and crypto payments are final.

Promptchan belongs to VisionAI Labs Limited, registered in Dublin, and its privacy policy is short. It covers your username, email, payments, prompts typed in public mode and technical data, and the analytics part is precise: a first-party visitor ID kept 13 months, clicks kept 90 days, plus Google Analytics and Google Ads. It says nothing specific about chat logs, and we found no billing descriptor.

The bigger privacy point is the gallery. Private mode is a paid-plan feature. In public mode, the terms give Promptchan a perpetual, transferable licence to reuse what you make, marketing included, and let other users copy and remix it. Private creations stay yours alone.
