EVA AI Review: a romance app with voice calls, not a sex chat site

What the chat is like

EVA AI is a phone-first companion app rather than a website you chat on. Its virtual friends talk by text and voice, and both sets of terms describe a video call feature, where available, that uses your camera and microphone. The about page promises characters who remember details and open up the longer you talk, and you can build your own by choosing traits or uploading content.

Characters you create can be private or public, and here is a catch: the terms let EVA switch a character's visibility, private to public included, at its own discretion, flagging the change only through an icon. You can then ask for it to be made private again or deleted. The terms also say the chatbot learns from other users and that staff may step in to moderate it.

How far it goes (NSFW rules)

Not far, and this is the deal-breaker for readers of this site. The iOS and Android terms both forbid generating, requesting or sharing sexually explicit or adult-themed content, alongside the standard bans on sexualising anyone under 18, on scenes lacking a partner's agreement, on hate and on posing as real people. The homepage talks about intimacy on your terms; the rulebook says romance, not sex chat.

What EVA does sell is flirting on a meter. Romantic replies arrive locked, and each one costs 2 Neurons, the in-app currency, to read. Virtual gifts for your companion are priced in Neurons as well. If you want explicit roleplay between fictional adults, a dedicated NSFW platform such as Candy AI or Nastia AI is the better fit.

Pictures, voice and video

Voice chat and the video call feature are the multimedia highlights, although the terms warn that video calls may produce unexpected or inappropriate output and can be changed or dropped at any time. You can also send photos to your companion: the privacy policy says images pass through an outside service for object and face recognition, and that the same service can edit pictures at your request.

Nothing on the site mentions generated nude pictures or explicit video, which fits the rules above. Expect a chat-and-voice companion that reacts to your photos, not an image generator or a spicy media library.

What it costs

EVA runs a free Basic tier with limited access, which it may deny to anyone at its discretion, plus Premium, which you buy inside the App Store or Google Play version on a one, three, six or twelve month cycle. The site never states a price: the terms say Premium and Neuron prices vary by region and plan length, and anything outside Premium costs extra.

Premium renews automatically until you cancel in the store you bought from, and a payment more than 7 days late drops you back to Basic. Store purchases are final with no refunds from EVA, partial periods are never refunded, and you are left with Apple's or Google's own refund rules.

Privacy, billing and refunds

The data controller is NOVI LIMITED of Nicosia, Cyprus, with an appointed data protection officer reachable through support. The policy is frank about what it gathers: your name, gender, age signals, facts about your life, people you mention, photos and private media you share, and the text and voice messages themselves, which are used to develop the AI.

Sharing goes further than most companion apps admit. Usage data goes to Mintegral and its partners, session recordings can go to Microsoft if you agree at sign-up, and the website runs Google, Facebook, Yahoo and Bing advertising tools. The Android terms even say you agree to receive advertising for the company's other products.

The clause that should worry you most: if you file a chargeback, the terms say EVA may disclose any or all of your private conversations to prove the charge was valid. Disputes go to binding arbitration, in London for non-US users and New York for US users, with class actions waived. Deleting your account is irreversible and, per the terms, wipes your data for good.
